The Science curriculum at Race Leys Junior School is carried by the three pillars of the Griffin School trust: High achievement, Griffin Promise and Proud traditions. The intent of this subject is to ensure all children are exposed to a variety of scientific areas and being able to relate to their own life.

This is implemented throughout the school by a series of well-structured science lessons (both theory and practical base) to not only gain knowledge in the three areas of Science: Biology, Physics and Chemistry, but how this has shaped the world we live in. The curriculum is robust allowing children the opportunity to seek knowledge from other external areas such as workshops, visitors and trips. The school do not only focus on Science, but are also encouraging children to learn about all four of the STEM topics: Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. As well as this, Forest School has newly been introduced into our Science curriculum aiming to promote the holistic development, fostering resilient, confident, independent and creative learners. Our involvement in the Griffin Science Symposium and British Science Week allows our children here at Race Leys Junior School, as they are able to be a part of a bigger science association and are also able to share their work on a larger scale.

The impact of these lessons and opportunities is, not only the achievements of the children through their increasing levels throughout the key stage, but also the impact of inspiring our children to go into the different fields of Science and STEM.
