>> OUR CULTURE OF SAFEGUARDING
The school is committed to the vital contribution all governors and staff can make to safeguarding children. We will strive to make sure that every student in the school feels secure, well cared for, and able to reach their full potential.
We will ensure all our own staff, other professionals, parents/carers and students work together to know about keeping children safe. They will understand the importance of following procedures and listening to each other, especially when there are concerns about safety.
The school will work hard to reduce all the kinds of harm that children can suffer, including abuse, bullying, discrimination and avoidable injuries. If you have any concerns at all about the safety or welfare of a child please do not hesitate to contact us.

Young Carers at Race Leys
What is a Young Carer?
A young carer is a student under the age of 18 who helps look after a family member, such as a parent, sibling, or grandparent, who has a physical disability, mental health condition, chronic illness, or substance misuse issue.
These responsibilities might include:
- Practical tasks: Cooking, cleaning, or shopping.
- Physical care: Helping someone get out of bed or get dressed.
- Emotional support: Providing a listening ear or staying home to make sure a loved one is safe.
- Sibling care: Looking after younger brothers or sisters when a parent is unwell.
Our Dedicated Support Team
We want every young carer to feel that school is a place where they can thrive, regardless of their responsibilities at home. To ensure this happens, we have a dedicated leadership team in place:
- Young Carers Lead: Ms Smith Miss Smith is the primary point of contact for our young carers. She is here to listen, offer practical advice, and ensure that teachers understand the unique challenges our young carers might face (such as needing extra time for homework or feeling tired during the day).
- Governor: Ms Ramsey Ms Ramsey oversees our young carer provision from a governance perspective. She works closely with the school leadership to ensure we are meeting national standards of care and that our policies truly benefit the students who need them most.

If you think your child might be a young carer, or if you are a student who wants to talk about your role at home, please come and find us. All conversations are handled with sensitivity and care.
For more information, please speak to Ms Smith at school.
